Belchior’s 80th birthday brings renewed interest and a book reissue

A book about Belchior’s final years has a new edition as the Brazilian singer and songwriter is remembered on what would have been his 80th birthday.

Belchior, born in Ceará, died in 2017 at age 70 after spending his final years away from public life.

From 2009 to 2017, he and his companion, Edna Assunção, lived discreetly in several cities in Rio Grande do Sul, often staying with friends and admirers.

The new edition of *Viver é melhor que sonhar – Os últimos caminhos de Belchior* keeps the original story, adding a text by singer Ana Cañas and a four-page afterword.

The book’s reissue is part of renewed interest in Belchior’s life and music, including new books, a television series and film projects.

A documentary about his 1976 album *Alucinação* is being shown in São Paulo, and a feature film is due in cinemas in December.
