Imperial Hotel Tokyo apologizes over gallery exhibition
A group exhibition at the Imperial Hotel Tokyo drew criticism over works showing nude girls and images viewers said suggested sexual violence against girls.
The show, called “Okikomori-kai,” ran from October 3 to 13 at a gallery inside the hotel’s Tower building.
The hotel said it had not checked or approved the disputed works before they were displayed.
The gallery said it removed some works during the exhibition and apologized, acknowledging that its checks before opening were insufficient.
The hotel also apologized for causing concern about how it manages tenants.
The exhibition was organized by the gallery, not the hotel, according to the gallery.
The hotel says it will strengthen advance checks and tenant communication to help prevent a similar problem.
