Richarlison scores for Tottenham under-21s in EFL Trophy defeat

Richarlison returned to action for Tottenham’s under-21s in an EFL Trophy match against Cheltenham Town on Tuesday.

The Brazilian forward scored Tottenham’s equaliser, and the match ended 2-2.

Cheltenham won the penalty shoot-out 7-6, despite Richarlison scoring from the spot.

He had been left out of manager Roberto De Zerbi’s first-team squad after saying he wanted to leave, according to De Zerbi.

Attempts to arrange moves to Everton, Trabzonspor and Vasco did not succeed before the transfer deadline.

The EFL Trophy gave Richarlison a chance to play while he is outside Tottenham’s first-team plans.

Cheltenham manager Steve Cotterill praised his attitude, and Richarlison said he had missed playing; the source says he will be without first-team football until January.
