Indonesia seizes nearly 1.2 tons of drugs at Aceh lab and 1.16 tons of ketamine

Indonesian authorities uncovered a suspected drug lab in Pidie, Aceh, and seized nearly 1.2 tons of narcotics, including liquid methamphetamine and crystal meth.

They also seized 1.16 tons of ketamine from a tanker intercepted off Sumatra and brought to Belawan Port.

Police arrested 11 people in the Aceh case and eight crew members from the tanker.

Investigators suspect the lab was linked to an international trafficking network, and are checking possible ties to groups in China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Southeast Asia’s Golden Triangle.

Indonesia is a major target for drug traffickers, despite strict laws that can impose the death penalty for smuggling.

Authorities are tracing the routes, raw materials and money and trying to identify the people who organized both operations.

They also plan to work with foreign authorities to investigate the suspected international links.
