Santa Bárbara and KNDS visit Catalan steelmaker Comforsa

Santa Bárbara Sistemas and German company KNDS Deutschland Tracks visited Catalan steelmaker Comforsa to examine its industrial capabilities.

Comforsa is a publicly owned company that makes large forged metal parts and is Catalonia’s largest industrial firm with a stake held by the regional government.

The visit comes as Catalonia considers what role it could play in a defence sector with little historical presence in the region.

Santa Bárbara and KNDS are working together on a public contract to modernise Leopard 2E tanks used by Spain’s Army.

Comforsa could potentially make parts for defence, but the company has not announced a move into the sector.

Its future remains open to opportunities, and it has also held mostly commercial discussions with Indra.

No partnership or next step was announced.
