Erdoğan and Macron discuss UN leadership and bilateral ties

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed ties in a phone call.

They reviewed regional and global issues and the process of choosing the next UN secretary-general.

Erdoğan said the next UN chief should have the vision and experience to strengthen the UN’s role in multilateral diplomacy and carry out reforms.

The discussion comes as the UN considers a successor to its current secretary-general.

Erdoğan invited Macron to the COP31 Leaders Summit, which Türkiye is set to host.

Macron also congratulated Erdoğan on Türkiye’s Republic Day, celebrated each year on October 29.
