PAN asks Mexico to restrict travel for former election chief and businessman
Mexico’s PAN party wants travel restrictions on former election chief Guadalupe Taddei and businessman José Alfredo Hernández Casillas.
The party says the measure would stop them from leaving the country while allegations of corruption are investigated.
Taddei led Mexico’s National Electoral Institute, known as the INE, and Hernández Casillas is described as a supplier who received contracts from the institute.
Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit blocked accounts belonging to 40 people linked to INE suppliers, including Taddei and the Hernández Casillas brothers, after flagging financial transactions.
The unit also filed a complaint with the federal prosecutor, which must determine any responsibility.
PAN is asking the prosecutor to seek the migration alert, but the account blocking does not establish guilt, and the sources do not say whether the alert will be issued.
