Turkey targets remote readings for 7 million electricity customers by 2027

Turkey plans to expand its national smart-meter system, with about 7 million electricity customers targeted for remote meter reading by the end of 2027.

The rollout began on March 1, 2026, and by September 4 million EKO meters and 70,000 PRO meters had been installed.

Another 2.7 million PRO meters are planned by the end of 2027.

The system is intended to help utilities predict faults, target maintenance, tackle electricity losses and strengthen the grid during disasters.

Grid data for 15 million customers will also be monitored for outages and technical quality at their connection points.

A test version of a mobile app is available, with information on consumption, outages and compensation among the planned features.

Distribution companies will face performance checks based on service quality, including outage duration and frequency, and meter rollout progress will be monitored by the regulator.
