First Hainan-Hong Kong Joint Law Firm Opens in Haikou

Yinghe Hauzen (Haikou) opened in Haikou on October 16 as the first joint law firm between Hainan and Hong Kong established since Hainan's free trade port began island-wide customs operations.

It was set up by Beijing-based Yinghe Law Firm and Hong Kong's Hauzen LLP, and was approved in March.

The firm offers services under mainland Chinese law and common law, the legal system used in Hong Kong.

Its work will focus on cross-border investment and Hong Kong listings, trade and customs compliance, international business disputes, and compliance for companies expanding overseas.

The firm aims to help businesses manage cross-border legal and regulatory issues by linking advice, compliance support and listing and financing services.

This matters as companies use Hainan and Hong Kong to pursue international business and investment.

It plans to open a regular service desk in Haikou for companies seeking help with investment filings, money transfers and compliance reviews, and has preliminary plans with universities to train legal specialists in international law.
