Ramayana: Part 2 delayed to 2028 as producer leaves door open to trilogy
Producer Namit Malhotra says Ramayana: Part 2 will arrive in 2028, a year later than originally planned.
The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is an adaptation of the Hindu epic and stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana.
The first instalment is scheduled to open in theatres on November 5, 2026.
Malhotra says the extra year will give the team more time to make the sequel on the scale they want, rather than rush it.
The story was first planned as three films, then changed to two, but Malhotra says the team may reconsider after hearing audience feedback.
The makers also have two versions of Part 1 with different runtimes and are assessing how viewers respond.
The sequel is expected to follow Rama as he searches for Sita after Ravana abducts her.
Producer Namit Malhotra says Ramayana: Part 2 has been postponed from 2027 to 2028.
He said the extra year will give the filmmakers more time to complete the sequel on the scale they envision.
Malhotra said the story was initially planned as a trilogy before the makers decided to tell it in two films.
He has left open the possibility of revisiting that plan after audiences respond to the films.

What people are saying
That extra year is what I genuinely believe we need to do justice for a film of this size.
We didn't want to do a rush job or get ahead of ourselves, and we wanted to make sure that we delivered the finale in as much grandeur as it deserves.
So we started out the film, we were going to make it in three (parts), then we decided to make it in two.
