Knicks hang NBA Cup banner after winning last season's tournament
The New York Knicks raised a banner for last season’s NBA Cup title at Madison Square Garden before opening their season against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The team had chosen not to hang a banner after winning the tournament in December, saying it was looking ahead to bigger goals.
The Knicks later beat the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals to win their first championship since 1973.
They had also defeated the Spurs in the NBA Cup final.
Coach Mike Brown said the banner recognized the team’s difficult journey and its fans.
