River prospect Jonathan Spiff scores again and hopes for another first-team chance

River reserve striker Jonathan Spiff scored in a 1-1 draw with Vélez in the Torneo Proyección Clausura.

The 19-year-old, whose father is Nigerian, has scored 13 goals for River’s reserves in 2026.

River let its lead slip late, leaving it level on points with Talleres and behind leaders Central and Vélez in Zone A. Spiff has already made two brief appearances for River’s first team, in matches against Bragantino and Blooming.

He signed his first professional contract with River through December 2028.

With senior forwards Lucas Beltrán, Sebastián Driussi and Rafael Borré ahead of him, Spiff hopes to earn another chance in the first team.

River’s reserve side has three group-stage matches left and is due to visit San Lorenzo next.

I think we’re going to get the 9 points that remain and finish first or second, which will be very important for playing at home in the knockout rounds
