Mexico's federal prosecutors challenge Gilda Lozoya's court protection
Mexico's federal prosecutors have challenged a court ruling that paused the effects of criminal proceedings against Gilda Susana Lozoya Austin.
She is the sister of former Pemex chief Emilio Lozoya and faces money-laundering charges in the Agronitrogenados case.
A three-judge appeals court must decide whether to uphold, change or overturn the ruling that granted her protection from the effects of being formally charged.
The case concerns allegations that she helped move $3.4 million her brother allegedly received as a bribe from businessman Alonso Ancira.
Prosecutors say the alleged bribe was linked to Pemex's 2013 purchase of a fertilizer plant for $257 million, though its official valuation was $58 million.
The challenge has suspended the protection case and delayed a hearing that had been set for October 29, with no new date yet.
Lozoya Austin remains free under conditions that include wearing an electronic monitor, reporting to authorities every two weeks and surrendering her passport.
