Faustino Oro draws with Anton Korobov in German chess Bundesliga

Argentine chess player Faustino Oro drew with Ukrainian grandmaster Anton Korobov in the third round of Germany’s Bundesliga team competition.

Oro, one of the youngest grandmasters in chess history, is playing his first season with Werder Bremen.

Korobov had a higher Elo rating, and Oro had much less time on his clock late in the game, but the match ended in a draw.

The result gave Werder Bremen half a point, but the team still lost 5.5–2.5 to defending champion SC Viernheim.

Oro has scored one point from his first three games, with two draws and one loss, facing grandmasters in each.

The Bundesliga pauses for a month and resumes on November 13, with rounds scheduled through November 15.

Whether Oro plays in those rounds depends on Werder Bremen’s team selection.
