Halkbank plans 100 MW solar power project in Karaman

Halkbank plans a 100 MW solar power plant with storage in Karaman, Turkey, through its subsidiary Halk Elektrik Üretim.

The project is intended to expand Turkey’s renewable energy capacity and strengthen the reliability of its electricity supply.

The plant is expected to produce enough renewable electricity for about 120,000 homes a year.

Halkbank also estimates it could prevent about 175,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, an amount it compares with the annual carbon absorption of about three million trees.

The project is also meant to diversify and strengthen the subsidiary’s finances, with Halkbank expecting it to contribute to the bank’s income over the medium to long term.

The bank says the investment supports Turkey’s green transition and its 2053 net-zero emissions target.

The sources do not give a construction schedule or an expected date for the plant to begin operating.
