Man arrested after attempted ticket machine break-in in Villmergen

A 48-year-old Italian man was arrested after an attempted break-in at a ticket machine in Villmergen, Switzerland.

The incident happened late Thursday in an underground garage near the village square.

A passerby saw the man working on the machine and called police after he claimed he was there to repair it.

Police say he tried to drill open the machine and damaged it and nearby cameras.

Officers found drill bits on him and a drill in his car; an electric scooter was also in the vehicle.

No cash is believed to have been taken, based on initial findings.

The Aargau cantonal police are investigating whether the arrested man was responsible, and the prosecutor’s office has opened a criminal investigation.
