Figure skater Egor Rukhin will represent Bulgaria
Russian figure skater Egor Rukhin will represent Bulgaria at international competitions.
He previously trained with coach Eteri Tutberidze, whose demanding methods he says were not unusually strict.
Rukhin said athletes are expected to follow a training plan in any high-level sports team.
He added that no one is forced to meet those demands and that injury levels are not higher than in other coaching groups.
Injuries and inconsistent results kept him from establishing himself among Russia’s leading skaters.
He also missed much of the 2022–23 season because of health problems after COVID-19 and was told not to train after a Grand Prix event.
Rukhin has moved to Sofia and is training with Andrei Lutai ahead of representing Bulgaria.

No, absolutely, as in any other coaching team: these are normal requirements for elite sport. You come to training, you have a plan, and you have to carry it out.
