Cardiovascular diseases kill about one person every 72 seconds in Brazil, according to the Brazilian Society of Cardiology.
That is an average of 1,194 deaths a day.
By 11 a.m.
on October 8, the society’s count had reached 334,898 deaths.
The society launched a platform with the World Heart Federation to bring together data on cardiovascular disease in Brazil.
It includes official death records and estimates, with information by state, sex and age group.
The platform projects that annual deaths will rise from 417,550 in 2024 to 462,573 in 2030, an increase of 10.8%.
The society says controlling high blood pressure and diabetes, reducing smoking, addressing obesity and inactivity, and providing timely care for heart attacks and strokes could help change that trend.
