Teatro Real begins US tour with concert at New York’s Lincoln Center

Madrid’s Teatro Real opened its fifth US tour with a concert at Lincoln Center in New York.

The orchestra performed under conductor Gustavo Gimeno, joined by soprano Adriana González and flamenco guitarist Juan Manuel Cañizares.

The program featured works by Spanish composers Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Rodrigo, along with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade.

The concert brought Spanish musical works to a major US venue, David Geffen Hall, which has 2,200 seats and hosts the New York Philharmonic.

The performance ended with a long ovation, and the tour now moves to Miami, where soprano Gabriela Reyes will perform in place of González.

The tour then concludes in Washington with a special quartet concert at the Library of Congress, part of events marking the 250th anniversary of US independence.
