COP31 documentary shares the lives of Turkey’s Sarıkeçili Yörüks

A documentary called The Yörüks tells the lives of Sarıkeçili families who live in Turkey’s Taurus Mountains.

The film was released on official COP31 accounts as Antalya prepares to host the UN climate conference.

It follows Yörük families whose way of life is shaped by moving with and adapting to nature.

The documentary draws on 45 days of filming and traces Yörük journeys from Central Asia to the Balkans.

Its stories include a man carrying an injured baby goat back to his shelter and a farming family in North Macedonia.

COP31 President and Turkish environment minister Murat Kurum shared the film, presenting the families’ relationship with nature as a reminder that the world is our shared home.

The film was made to carry that message to countries ahead of COP31.

Happiness is wherever home is. In the world of the Yörüks, home is not made up of four walls; it is beneath the sky, in line with the stars, in the embrace of the forest. This life at the peak of the Taurus Mountains reminds us once again of the simplest truth on the road to COP31: our common home is the world.

If we do not see the stars, if we do not see the moon, if we do not see the sunrise, we cannot live. Put this person in a closed room, and there you have a grave.
