Lagos Street Art Festival brings artists' work into public spaces
Artists gathered in Lagos for the festival’s second edition on Saturday, painting works on canvases with spray cans and brushes.
The event aims to bring art beyond galleries and into public spaces so more people can encounter it.
Creative council member Adaora Mbelu said the festival also gives artists a platform to show and commercialise their work.
The first edition, held in 2025, featured 12 artists, including nine Nigerians and three international participants.
They made large-scale works across the city under the theme “Legendary Lagos: City of Dreams.”
The festival is part of efforts to use public art for community engagement and urban storytelling in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
The second edition builds on those efforts to create opportunities for artists in Nigeria.

What people are saying
The galleries won't take them. And so, we're giving them that opportunity to actually allow them to express their creativity, one, but also to be able to have a platform where they can have visibility and also commercialise their work,
