Indian Railways to offer optional insurance at reservation counters
Indian Railways will offer optional travel insurance to passengers buying reserved tickets at reservation counters from October 27.
Until now, the option was available only to people buying reserved tickets online.
The premium is 45 paise per passenger, including taxes, and payment must be made digitally along with the ticket fare.
The policy provides up to Rs 10 lakh for death or permanent total disability in a train accident, as well as cover for some other injuries and expenses.
It applies to specified railway accidents and incidents, but does not cover general-class passengers or children under five travelling without a seat or berth.
Children aged five to 11 with a reservation are covered, and counter staff will record passengers’ details so policy information can be sent to their registered mobile number.
