Indonesia’s DSI to set export price ranges for coal, palm oil and ferroalloy

Indonesia’s DSI will set price ranges for exports of coal, crude palm oil and ferroalloy.

Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the state company will use commercial measures, including the government’s export benchmark price, as references.

The ranges are intended to guide export pricing, while business representatives say they still need clear rules on how transaction prices will be set.

DSI is also due to become the sole intermediary for these strategic resource exports from January 1, 2027.

That role does not mean DSI will conduct the commercial deals: exporters and buyers will still transact directly, with DSI examining the transactions.

The government has not yet set out the detailed technical rules, and a business representative urged it to do so promptly.

Those details matter for exporters and producers who need a clear basis for prices and related tax decisions.

The planned Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange is also targeted to launch on January 1.

The one thing that has not been answered is where transaction prices are set, and what benchmark farmers, planters and economic actors in this industry, as well as mining, should use.
