Winter fires in South Korea’s Chungnam killed 27 over five years

Chungnam recorded 2,871 winter fires over five years, according to the provincial fire service in South Korea.

The fires killed 27 people and injured 110, and caused 90.1 billion won in property damage.

Single-family homes had the most fires, followed by vehicles and factories.

The fire service is carrying out prevention measures through February, including stronger safety checks for high-risk sites and closer cooperation with other agencies.

It will focus on different risks in different areas, such as homes, vehicles, agricultural buildings and boats.

The measures aim to reduce fires by targeting local hazards across the province.
