Indonesia's Constitutional Court judges cleared of ethics breach in Gibran case

Indonesia's constitutional court ethics panel rejected a complaint against nine judges who handled a case about Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka's diploma.

The complaint alleged the judges breached ethics while considering whether Gibran met the education requirement for office.

It was filed by Pian Andreo Halomoan Manurung, who leads the Indonesian Student Forum.

The panel said the judges' decision to examine the substance of the case, rather than stop at formal requirements, did not breach judicial principles.

Denny Indrayana, who challenged Gibran's diploma, said the ruling should be respected and urged people not to report judges without strong grounds and evidence.

The panel noted that courts can be drawn into political disputes, but said the concern is whether politics influences the courts.

The complaint has been rejected in full, and no further steps are stated.

Of course we respect the court’s ruling, and we should not too easily report Constitutional Court judges to the ethics panel, especially without a basis, reasons or strong evidence.
