Two Syrian pipelines damaged in separate incidents

Two incidents damaged Syrian energy pipelines on Thursday.

An explosion set fire to a gas pipeline in Hasakah in northeastern Syria, while a separate damaged line carrying oil products from Baniyas to Homs caused a fuel leak.

The Syrian Petroleum Company said the gas line was targeted in a sabotage attack, but no suspect or group was named.

State media said the leak on the Baniyas-Homs line was believed to be linked to attempted fuel theft.

Crews isolated both damaged sections, and repairs are under way on the oil products line.

The company said gas would still reach power stations through alternative arrangements and domestic gas supplies were unaffected.

The incidents add to recent damage to Syria’s energy network as the government tries to restore infrastructure and increase domestic oil production.
