Three drones shot down in Russia’s Leningrad region; alert lifted

Russian air defences shot down three drones in the Leningrad region on October 21, according to regional governor Alexander Drozdenko.

The drone alert had been issued for the Luga district, where residents were warned that mobile internet might slow.

The regional alert was later lifted, and Drozdenko said there were no casualties.

Restrictions at Pskov and Pulkovo airports were removed, allowing normal flight services to resume.

The alert was announced shortly after US special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in St Petersburg, but the reports do not establish a connection between the events.

Witkoff had travelled to Russia after talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Oslo the previous day.

Ukraine said it was preparing proposals to end the fighting and hoped to pass them to Moscow through US officials.
