Tesla is set to unveil its long-delayed next-generation Roadster

Tesla plans to unveil its next-generation Roadster on October 15, after postponing the event from October 1.

The electric sports car was first shown in 2017, when Tesla promised production in 2020, but no cars have been delivered.

Tesla says deliveries are expected next year, while another reported timeline has production starting in 2027 or 2028.

The event is expected to feature a demonstration involving SpaceX cold-gas thrusters, which Elon Musk has said could help the car accelerate in under one second.

The Roadster is a high-priced car aimed at buyers seeking extreme speed and spectacle, rather than the range and practicality many EV buyers want.

Tesla is unveiling the car in a very different EV market: the number of electric models available in the US has grown from 15 in 2017 to nearly 90, while EV sales are now shrinking.

The company has not yet delivered the car, and the event may show a prototype rather than a finished, road-legal vehicle.
