A32 near Grou closed over risk of glass falling from aqueduct lights

The A32 near Grou in Friesland is closed because glass panels on lights may fall onto the road.

The lights are in the Midden-Friesland Aqueduct, where the motorway passes beneath the Prinses Margriet Canal.

Inspections found the risk, and Rijkswaterstaat has diverted all traffic as a precaution.

Specialists are deciding whether to remove the glass panels or the entire lights.

The road will stay closed until it is safe, but the reopening time is not known.

The closure may last through the weekend.

Traffic between Heerenveen and Leeuwarden is being sent via Drachten, using the A7 and N31.
