United Airlines will end flights to Tulum in early 2027

United Airlines will end its service to Tulum in early 2027, leaving the Mexican airport with fewer international flights.

Its last flights are scheduled to depart from Newark on January 2 and Houston on January 4.

The airline had already stopped flying directly to Tulum from Chicago, Los Angeles and Denver.

United says affected passengers can receive full refunds after the route changes.

Tulum’s Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport opened in December 2023 and quickly reached one million passengers.

Several airlines are cutting routes to the airport, including Aeroméxico and Volaris, while American Airlines is also reducing service.

The story links the cuts to the end of airline subsidies, lower tourist numbers, sargassum and other costs that may make the destination less attractive to airlines.

The airport will have fewer flights from abroad as these changes take effect in early 2027.
