Mumbai Police tell actor Imran Khan to leave India by October 28

Mumbai Police have told actor Imran Khan to leave India by October 28 in a formal notice.

Khan took part in a protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai on October 10, where demonstrators called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to resign.

Police briefly detained him during the demonstration.

Police say Khan is not an Indian citizen and breached his visa conditions by joining a political protest.

A former BJP lawmaker had urged authorities to take action against him after the protest.

The notice orders Khan to leave the country, while police say further administrative procedures are underway.

The sources do not say whether Khan plans to challenge the notice or leave India.
