Ukraine says Starlink restrictions threaten military communications
Ukraine says Starlink access was restricted, raising concern about a service its military uses for communications.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the restrictions affected drones near the front and some air-defence tasks.
Starlink is operated by SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, and Ukraine also uses its military-focused Starshield service.
US officials deny responsibility for restricting the service, while Musk has said limits are decided by the US military and ultimately the president.
Zelenskyy also said the US had resumed sharing warnings about Russian attacks, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio said intelligence sharing had not stopped.
The competing accounts come as Trump presses for a settlement to the war and questions Zelenskyy’s commitment to ending it.
Ukraine’s reliance on satellite communications makes the dispute significant, but the available accounts do not say whether service restrictions have been resolved.
Ukraine’s reliance on Starlink for military communications and drone operations has raised concerns after reports that access or speeds were restricted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the restrictions affected drones near the front line and some air-defence tasks, while the US administration denied responsibility.
Reports say Starlink and its military-use service, Starshield, support Ukrainian communications, logistics, live drone feeds, radar, targeting and interception of Russian drones.
The dispute has highlighted Ukraine’s dependence on a privately operated satellite network and the risks that restrictions could pose to its military operations.
US and Ukrainian officials also disputed whether Washington had paused intelligence sharing, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying there had been no interruption.

Starlink connectivity at speeds of up to 160 km/h is being restored. Removing Starshield’s speed limit entirely is now critical for Ukraine’s defense. Thank you, @elonmusk. We hope for your continued support.
