Pegida founder Lutz Bachmann returns with Dresden gathering
Pegida founder Lutz Bachmann held a gathering in Dresden on Tuesday, his first in about two years.
Around 450 people attended and then marched through the city.
Bachmann had ended regular Pegida demonstrations in October 2024 after 250 rallies.
He said he wanted to return to the movement’s early style, with no large stage or prominent speakers.
Saxony’s domestic intelligence agency still classifies Bachmann and Pegida as far-right, and says Pegida remains under observation.
The march was mostly calm, though brief arguments and physical scuffles broke out near the end between participants and three men with cameras.
Bachmann announced another gathering in December in the same format.
