South Korea’s Lee urges supporters to avoid abusive online political speech

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung urged his supporters on October 11 to avoid abusive language and false claims in online political debate.

He posted the message on X, a public social media platform.

Lee said political success depends on winning more citizens’ agreement, not on defeating someone in an online argument.

He warned that insults, mockery and slurs may feel satisfying briefly but can look like a defeat to the public.

He called for civil, fact-based discussion and persuasion instead.

Lee said reasoned debate is important to democracy.

He asked his supporters to help protect a clean public debate and South Korean democracy.
