Mexico security forces kill Cártel Nuevo Imperio leader

Mexican security forces killed Edgar Aarón, known as “El General,” in the State of Mexico.

Officers were trying to carry out an arrest warrant on organized-crime charges when they came under fire and returned fire.

Aarón was the founder and leader of Cártel Nuevo Imperio.

Investigators identified him as the alleged mastermind behind the 2024 killing of police officer Milton Morales in Coacalco.

He was also investigated for extortion, kidnapping, murder, money laundering, fuel theft and drug trafficking to the United States and Canada.

Authorities will continue investigating the cartel to identify and arrest other members and dismantle its criminal networks.
