Vigo-born dancer and choreographer Xián Martínez dies at 30
Dancer and choreographer Xián Martínez died in Barcelona at 30, his partner and collaborators announced.
Born in Vigo, he trained in dance in Madrid and built a career as a performer and choreographer.
He worked with companies and institutions including Dantzaz, the Lille Opera and the Berlin State Opera, as well as with several prominent artists.
In 2020, he founded iXa, a contemporary dance company with Galician and Basque roots.
His work explored identity, memory and human relationships, and aimed to make contemporary dance accessible to more people.
His recent work, A Espera do Baleiro, explored absence, farewell and memory and premiered in Portugal weeks before his death.
