Lorient beat Monaco 1-0 to end their unbeaten start

Lorient beat Monaco 1-0 in Ligue 1 on Sunday in Brittany, ending Monaco’s nine-match unbeaten run.

Noah Cadiou scored the only goal from a penalty in the 61st minute after Dembo Sylla was brought down in the box.

Monaco struggled to create clear chances against Lorient’s compact defence and did not find an equaliser.

The loss was Monaco’s first of the season and followed six league games without defeat.

The result cost Monaco their place at the top of the table, though the season is still early.

Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara called the defeat a possible wake-up call and said the team would try to correct its mistakes.

Monaco’s next match is against Freiburg at home on Thursday, giving the team an early chance to respond.

We were a bit too relaxed with the ball. We needed more energy and intensity in ball circulation.

Lorient are a good team that defend low and compactly. There weren’t many chances before the goal, and after the penalty everything was more difficult.
