Russian lawmaker proposes raising housing tax deduction limit to 8 million rubles
Russian lawmaker Alexander Aksenenko proposed raising the housing tax deduction limit from 2 million to 8 million rubles.
The deduction lets people who buy or build a home reclaim some income tax they have paid.
The current limit allows a refund of up to 260,000 rubles at a 13% tax rate.
If the proposal passes, the maximum refund could rise to 1.04 million rubles at that rate.
The deduction can apply to new or second-hand homes, and the current limits have been in place since 2014.
A separate deduction for mortgage interest remains capped at 3 million rubles, allowing a refund of up to 390,000 rubles at 13%.
The increase is only a proposal, so the existing rules remain in force for now.
