Storm Adam brings flooding, road closures and severe weather across Italy

Storm Adam is bringing heavy rain and strong winds across much of Italy.

The system arrived from France and is also affecting parts of the country’s north, central regions and islands.

Weather warnings are in force in many regions, with the highest alert for extreme rainfall in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Piedmont.

Flooding has trapped motorists, and a landslide has closed part of the Aurelia coastal road in Liguria.

The storm has disrupted travel and damaged property, with rail delays and cancellations reported in Puglia and several towns reporting flooded streets.

In Jesolo, a 46-year-old service member died after a tree apparently struck the car he was travelling in; authorities are investigating what happened.

Warnings also cover Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro, where strong gusts and high waves are expected.

Northern Italy may see conditions ease on Thursday, while the Adriatic regions are forecast to be hit harder.
