Netflix renews The Diplomat for a fifth season

Netflix has renewed The Diplomat for season five, two weeks after its fourth season premiered.

The political drama follows U.S. ambassador Kate Wyler, played by Keri Russell, and her husband Hal, played by Rufus Sewell.

Its latest season ends with a tense G7 summit and leaves questions about the characters’ futures.

Netflix says season four reached No.

3 on its global Top 10 in its second week and entered the Top 10 in 63 countries.

The show has also drawn awards attention, including an Actor Award for Russell and an Emmy for Allison Janney for season three.

Creator Debora Cahn will return, but Netflix has not confirmed the cast or story details for the new season.

There is no release date yet, and filming is not expected to begin before 2027.
