Taiyuan’s Urban Renewal Regulation Takes Effect on December 1

Taiyuan’s urban renewal regulation takes effect on December 1 and sets legal rules for the city’s redevelopment work.

It is the first city-level urban renewal law in Shanxi province, shifting the work from policy-led efforts to a more formal, long-term process.

The 40-article regulation covers building safety, infrastructure and public services, as well as accessible facilities and the use of urban spaces.

Taiyuan says it will assess needs in homes, neighbourhoods, districts and across the city before choosing projects, and will seek residents’ views.

The city plans to coordinate funding and approvals while sharing costs among government, businesses and residents.

Work will include renovating older housing and neighbourhoods, improving key areas and upgrading public infrastructure.
