Dillashaw says Dvalishvili should use takedown threats to set up strikes

Merab Dvalishvili lost to Petr Yan for the second time in a row in their latest UFC bantamweight fight in Abu Dhabi.

Dvalishvili used pressure and repeated wrestling attempts, but only five of his 58 takedown attempts succeeded.

Yan grew more comfortable as the fight went on and was more accurate with his strikes.

Former UFC champion TJ Dillashaw said Dvalishvili should use takedown threats to set up strikes, rather than rely on wrestling alone.

Faking a takedown could make opponents brace to defend it, creating chances for knees, kicks and combinations.

That change could make Dvalishvili’s wrestling harder to defend and give him a better chance against Yan.

Whether Dvalishvili gets another chance to face Yan remains unclear.
