Gunsan man caught operating leisure boat 35 km offshore without notice

A man in his 40s was caught operating a leisure boat without notice off Gunsan, South Korea.

On October 16, he left Sinchi Port with two passengers to fish and travelled 35 km offshore.

South Korea requires people planning water recreation more than 10 nautical miles from their departure port to notify the authorities.

Coast guards found the missing notice when the boat returned that afternoon.

The violation can bring a 200,000-won fine under the law.

The notice is intended to help authorities respond quickly to accidents at sea, and Gunsan Coast Guard urged boaters to check whether they must file before setting out.
