Police investigate alleged assault between two Pekanbaru council members

A Pekanbaru council member reported an alleged assault by a colleague after they met at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Indonesia.

The complainant, identified as F, says fellow council member Z pushed and choked him during a disagreement after a visit to the Home Affairs Ministry.

Other council members reportedly intervened, and F filed a police report on August 10, 2026.

Police have questioned witnesses and checked airport CCTV as part of their investigation.

They have asked the governor of Riau for written permission to question the two council members involved, and say they are still waiting for a response.

That request is holding up further questioning, while police coordinate with the provincial government’s legal bureau.

The case remains under investigation, and police say they are handling it as a law-enforcement matter rather than a political one.
