Actor Patrick Stewart Dies at 86 After Roles in Star Trek and X-Men

Patrick Stewart has died at 86, his estate said.

The British actor died at his home in Los Angeles after what his estate called a brief journey with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.

He became globally known as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ran for seven seasons and led to films and a later series.

Before that role, Stewart spent years with Britain’s Royal Shakespeare Company and built a career in theatre.

He also played Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, bringing his stage experience to one of the franchise’s central characters.

His performances helped make both science-fiction and superhero stories credible to audiences who might not have expected them to carry serious drama.

Stewart will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which the sources say is due for release in December 2026.
