Volkswagen reveals China-built ID. AURA L5 electric family sedan

Volkswagen has revealed the ID.

AURA L5, an electric family sedan aimed at mainstream buyers.

Chinese and German teams developed the car for production by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.

It is designed as a practical family car, with a fastback rear hatch and an opening more than 1,000 millimetres wide.

Some versions will have LiDAR and Hyper Sense software, while the broader announcement also featured Volkswagen Group China's locally developed VEGA technology.

Volkswagen has struggled to deliver software that appeals to customers, making its China-developed technology an important part of the company's plans.

The company is evaluating whether to use its China-developed electrical architecture in Europe, where as many as 75% of its core models could eventually adopt it, according to internal discussions cited in the source.
