Mexico audit probes 8.87 billion pesos in electoral contracts
Mexico’s federal auditor is investigating two business groups over contracts and other operations with public bodies from 2014 to 2026.
The groups recorded about 8.87 billion pesos in total operations, including about 3.79 billion pesos with state-level electoral bodies.
The audit chief said the investigation covers the National Electoral Institute, state electoral bodies, companies and public officials who may be involved.
Investigators flagged subcontracting between companies in the same groups, as well as firms with few or no workers despite billing large sums.
They are also examining possible links between companies and officials, and whether unfair competition affected contract awards.
The probe is ongoing, and the auditor said it will examine how the arrangements began while respecting due process.
