Credit per person in Brazil rose 5.6% in 2025
A study by Brazil’s National Confederation of Financial Institutions found that real credit per person rose 5.6% on average across the country’s 27 states and federal district in 2025.
States with less than R$20,000 in credit per person in 2024 saw average growth of 7%, compared with 4% elsewhere.
Roraima recorded the biggest increase, at 11%, while credit fell in Mato Grosso and Rio de Janeiro and was unchanged in the Federal District.
Credit to households grew in every state, and the study says families helped drive the overall rise.
Pix transactions received by individuals grew at least 12% per person in every state between 2024 and 2025.
The study says credit access gaps have narrowed since the start of the decade, despite changes in economic conditions, and that this trend may continue in the near future.
Further growth depends on both lenders offering credit and people taking it up, so the study says the change reflects a wider market rather than supply or demand alone.

Without banks willing to grant credit and clients willing to take it, the volume of lending does not rise
