Ukraine says air raid alert app was hacked and sent false threat warnings

Ukraine's Air Force said the nationwide air raid alert app was hacked on Sunday.

For a short time, users saw false warnings about radiation, chemical threats and other dangers in Kyiv and elsewhere.

The alerts included a false message about a nuclear warning and Russia's Oreshnik missile.

Officials said there was no radiation threat, and the abnormal messages later disappeared.

The app normally gives people across Ukraine real-time warnings of Russian air strikes, sometimes leaving only minutes to reach shelter.

Ukraine's intelligence agency urged people to check other information channels, while the digital ministry said the app was not operating but sirens and other alert methods still worked.

A separate app for Kyiv was reported to be working normally.
