Spanish investigators trace €300,000 transfer linked to Aldama's claims
Spain’s Guardia Civil documented a €300,000 transfer to a company owned by businessman Víctor de Aldama.
The money came from Apamate, a company linked to Venezuelan financier Francisco Flores, and was transferred on 3 January 2020.
Aldama says the money came from Venezuelan oil deals and that he handed most of it in cash to José Luis Ábalos, then Spain’s transport minister.
Investigators say the transfer was recorded in the accounts of Aldama’s company, while a contract for a supposed company purchase was used to disguise the payment.
A court is investigating alleged irregular financing of the PSOE, Spain’s governing party, and whether money reached its accounts.
Investigators are checking the party’s donations and spending, after finding accounting discrepancies and missing or unclear receipts.
The investigation is still under way, and police and prosecutors are tracing whether the funds entered party accounts.
